Yes to freedom and democracy

Freedom, political rights and civil liberties in the south of Yemen are what we need now so peace and justice can prevail. It has been almost 11 years of northern military occupation, 11 years of oppression and continuous criminal activities by warlords lead by Ali Abdullah Saleh and his tribe (Hashed). The time has come for liberation, for democracy and prosperity.

The latest published human rights report" shows that the government of Yemen was the only country that is still behaving in such a criminal and oppressive manner against any peaceful opposition whether it is in the south or north. In fact any civic protest in south Yemen is illegal.
Southerners experience harassment, discrimination and intimidation daily, they have no media, and political parties to represent them apart from the Southern Democratic Assembly. These moves mark a dangerous and disturbing drift toward maintaining the authoritarianism in Yemen, if the Assembly doesn’t act and act quickly to stop this brutal regime.

The military regime has full control of the media, and the imposition of official curbs on opposition political parties and groups. Northern Yemen retreated after the 1994 war from freedom of expression and multi party system and now it even controls the different unions and civil societies.

The country is devoid of positive developments, however. The political rights in the south of Yemen declined further due to increased Northern government repression of the political opposition, and Cote d'Ivoire's civil liberties declined because of an upsurge in resistance emanating from unbearable occupation.
The broadest violations of civil liberties, including freedom of speech, rule of law, and personal autonomy, corruption take place in Yemen without any remorse from the government or even the international community.
We would like to assure the ******ship of the Southern Democratic Assembly that we are with them and urge them not to follow the steps of previous oppositions parties and movement who really damaged us badly.
