LONG LIFE TO THE SOUTHERN DEMOCRATIC ASSEMBLY

11years , the life of the southerners is still sadly crippled by the manacles of occupation, segregation and the chains of discrimination and oppression. Eleven years later, the southerners are still living on a lonely island of poverty in the midst of a vast ocean of material prosperity that is looted by the norherners warlords. 11 years later, the southerners are still languishing in the corners of the Northern occupiers and finds themselves an exile in their own land. So it is the right time to dramatise a shameful condition

The 1990 agreement for unification everyone was promised that he/she would be guaranteed the inalienable rights of life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness.
It is obvious today that Sana'a's regime has defaulted on this promissory agreement insofar as southerners are concerned. Instead of honouring this sacred obligation, Sana'a's regime has given the southern people a bad cheque which has come back marked "insufficient funds". But we refuse to believe that the bank of justice is bankrupt. We refuse to believe that there are insufficient funds in the great vaults of opportunity of this world. So we have come to cash this cheque - a cheque that will give us upon demand the riches of freedom and the security of justice. We have also come to this hallowed spot to remind Sana'a's regime and the international community of the fierce urgency of now. This is no time to engage in the luxury of cooling off or to take the tranquillising drug of gradualism. Now is the time to make real the promises of liberty and democracy. Now is the time to rise from the dark and desolate valley of occupation to the sunlit path of independence and justice. Now is the time to lift our nation from the quicksands of tribel injustice to the solid rock of brotherhood. Now is the time to make justice and freedom a reality for all .

It would be fatal for everybody to overlook the urgency of the moment. This sweltering summer of the southerners legitimate discontent will not pass until there is an invigorating autumn of freedom and equality. Two thousand and five is not the end, but a beginning. Those who hope that the southerners needed to blow off steam and will now be content will have a rude awakening if the people return to business as usual. There will be neither rest nor tranquillity in Yemen until the Southerners are granted their independence and rights. The whirlwinds of revolt will continue to shake the foundations of the military regime until the bright day of justice emerges
