Opposition: Two demonstrators killed in protests in southern Yemen

Two protesters have been killed after police forces opened fire to break up protests organised by separatist groups in southern Yemen to mark the failed 1994 secession attempt, opposition sources said on Wednesday. The sources said one protester was killed in al-Dees neighbourhood of the south-eastern port city of Mukalla, and another died in the southern city of Aden late on Tuesday.

Seven other protesters and three soldiers were reported injured, the sources said.

The protests were organised by southern opposition groups, which call for the south to secede from the north, to mark the 15th anniversary of the end of the 1994 civil war.

Witnesses said hundreds of protesters marched the streets of Mukalla and the southern city of Dhalea on Wednesday, but no confrontations with police were reported.
Opposition ******s said around 250 people were arrested during Tuesday's demonstrations.

Violent protests have rocked several cities in southern Yemen over the last few months, leaving dozens of dead and wounded among both the protesters and security force members.

The protests were staged by southern secessionist groups that want the south to secede from the north, claiming that the central government exercises discriminatory policies against southern Yemenis.

North and South Yemen were united in 1990. In 1994, southern ******s announced the secession of the south and battled northern forces led by President Saleh for 10 weeks in a civil war that ended in their defeat.

قتل إثنان من المتظاهرين بنيران الشرطة التي تصدت للمظاهرات التي دعى إليها المطالبون بالإنفصال في جنوب اليمن. و قد سقط أحد القتلى في الديس بالقرب من المكلاء و الأخر في الجنوب من عدن. كما جرح سبعة متظاهرين و ثلاث جنود خلال تلك المظاهرات التي دعت إليها مجموعات معارضة تطالب بفصل الجنوب عن الشمال و ذلك في الذكرى الخامسة عشر لنهاية حرب 1994.
كما كانت هناك مظاهرات في المكلاء و الضالع إلا أنه لم يبلغ عن مصادمات مع الشرطة!!
مصادر معارضة ذكرت أن أكثر من 250 متظاهر قد تم إعتقالهم خلال مظاهرات يوم 7/7.
و عد هزت المظاهرات العنيفة مدن الجنوب في الأشهر الماضية مخلفة عشرات القتلى و الجرحى.
المظاهرات تدعوا إلى فصل الجنوب عن الشمال حيث يتهم الجنوبيون الحكومة المركزية بممارسة الإقصاء ضدهم.
الجنوب والشمال توحدا في 1990 لتندلع حرب بينهما في 1994 إنتصر فيها الشمال على الجنوب.
